We asked artists that submitted work to us for Papergirl Leeds 2011 to answer a few questions on their experiences and of course, their practice; the things they love to do.
Here’s introducing to you, LuAnn Arena of Funky Kitty Productions:
Who are you and what do you do?
I am an artist/designer/musician/idealist/learning to fly…for PaperGirl I have been making one of a kind hand pulled prints.
Who and what inspire your work?
My greatest inspirations usually come from imagination or nature, both of which are gifts from the beyond.
How did you find out about Papergirl Leeds? What made you want to get involved?
I first heard about PaperGirl in 2010, and unfortunately cannot remember how I came across it. I participated in the NY event and then several around the world since then.
I love the idea of “the art of giving art”. I love the fact that the project is so inclusive; there is no judge and jury saying who is deemed worthy of expressing themselves.
How does it make you feel that your work now has a mystery owner? What would you wish them to think about it?
It is an exciting thought that someone I do not even know might be enjoying a creation, maybe even enough to hang it upon a wall, or share it among friends. My only wish would be that my good intentions in be felt through the images, that perhaps having the work is some kind of positive for that person.
What’s the next step in your creative journey? Where do you want to be?
Creating posters has always been a passion. Whether making them for work, for my own band, pro bono for social causes, The Say Something Poster Project or for PaperGirl, I find fitting a visual and a message together in a powerful way to be a very satisfying challenge. I especially enjoy creating the limited edition, hand pulled works, so different from my daily digital work.
I would love the opportunity to continue making more posters for as many great uses as possible!
If you could give a reason for getting involved with Papergirl Leeds to a fellow artist, what would it be?
I would have to say, think back to why you ever began the journey of art making, of creative expression, and forget any other reason than the love of sharing that with your fellow human beings!!
Thank you PaperGirl Leeds!
